Nose: I loved this nose, sweet vanilla, sandalwood, and cinnamon. Plus Bright peppermint, and hints of dill from American oak barrels.
Palate: At first this whiskey comes off all bourbon, vanilla, caramel with hints of cream, before the spicy minty rye kicks in.
Comments: I like the way both the bourbon and the rye shine though in this whiskey. It’s like sipping two whiskies at the same time.
High West made this whiskey from nicely aged barrels purchased from the closed Seagram’s distillery in Indianapolis, while the barrels of whiskey they are producing come of age. Proving two things 1. Seagram’s was capable of producing some great whiskies, and 2. Whoever is creating these whiskies has a great feel for blending barrels. This is the first whiskey I tried from this distillery but I feel they are in very competent hands and I can’t wait to try thier next offering.
